RIGOROUS INSTRUCTION THROUGH BLENDED-MASTERY MODEL

The keystone of the Cooperative Community Schools’ educational framework is mastery learning and the fundamental belief that all children can learn when provided with the conditions that are appropriate to their learning ability. Competency guided learning objectives ensure that all students acquire a working foundation for each subject before advancing to new material, a concept which stands in contrast to the popular age based annual grade placement system. This allows unimpeded progress for those students who master concepts quickly and further opportunity for practice and clarification for those students that need it. By varying instructional approaches and learning time, it has been shown that the inequality in academic achievement diminishes.

English Language Arts and Mathematics are offered in a blended environment, where some instruction is delivered online and some by a teacher. The flexible self-paced learning environment at CCS is facilitated through blended learning programs specialized for elementary and secondary students relying on competency-based progressions.
